New Advances in Diagnosing Appendicitis
Medical science needs more reliable means of diagnosing appendicitis. Commonly misdiagnosed and mistreated, appendicitis is a very problematic internal disease that requires special attention and prompt medical intervention. Due to the fact that appendicitis usually generates vague, non-specific symptoms, doctors are faced with a real challenge when it comes to diagnosing this type of disease. Lack of outwardly visible, clear appendicitis manifestations often leads to delayed medical intervention or, more commonly, unnecessary surgery. Recent studies indicate that the great majority of appendectomies are performed on healthy patients as a result of misdiagnosis. The unspecific character of...
Ultrasound technology allows medical professionals to look inside a patient without resorting to surgery. A transmitter is used to send high frequency sound waves in the body; the waves bounce off the different tissues and organs and hence produce a unique pattern of echoes. A receiver attached, hears the returning echo pattern and it sends it to a computer translating the data into an image on a television screen. Ultrasound can differentiate subtle variations between soft and fluid-filled tissues and is very useful in providing diagnostic images of the abdomen. Ultrazvuk abdomena identifies abnormalities in liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen and kidneys. It is also used to identify and see fetal...
MRI India- Low Cost MRI- Health Screening...
MRI India Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses non-ionizing radiofrequency waves and a strong magnetic field rather than x-rays to provide remarkably clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues. The strength of the magnet is very important, and high-field scanners (1.5 Tesla magnets) are generally regarded as the best magnet strength. The machine delivers the kind of high performance technology needed for the most demanding MRI exam . Gives for the first time ever, true whole-body imaging with no patient repositioning and no coil changes. A New Level of Clarity : -Superb image quality and new level of detail not possible with older or slower MRI equipment...

Shoulder Pain - Can Chiropractic Help Shoulder...
Painful shoulder problems are one of the most common reasons for chiropractic visits for musculoskeletal symptoms. The shoulder joint is the region of the body where the humerus attaches to the scapula, and the supporting muscles around the joint. The shoulder has the most movement of the major joints in the body. On the flipside, because of this large range of motion, it is relatively unstable and easily subject to injury. The head of the humerus (ball) is larger than the socket of the shoulder joint that holds it. To stabilise the shoulder joint, the muscles, tendons and ligaments anchor the bones of the joint together. Overuse injuries, degenerative changes and lack of use or movement can all...
Causes of Low Back Pain - 5 MORE Diagnostic...
In the first part of this article, X-ray imaging, Computerized Tomography (CT) and Discography were identified as some diagnostic methods used in identifying the cause of low back pain in the body. In this second part, you are going to know of more methods or procedures. 1. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - This procedure is applied to evaluate if there were diseases in the muscles, nerves, blood vessels or ligaments of the back. MRI is also used to identify bone degeneration in any particular lumbar region. The procedure involves the use of equipment, which will scan the body and according to Wikipedia, "it uses powerful magnetic field to align the nuclear magnetization of (usually) hydrogen atoms...
Negotiating the Medical Bill You Receive From a...
Did you know you can negotiate the medical bill you receive from a hospital? It's true. A year or so ago I was in immense pain. My lower back hurt and then the pain spread to my groin. It was unbelievable pain. So bad I couldn't drive. I asked my daughters to call their mom, my ex-wife, to get a ride to emergency. On the drive I heaved my guts out into a bowl in her car. Once there I continued heaving through the check in procedure. I have a doctor, but no health insurance. They got my address etc. and then put me on a gurney in a corridor. There I lay, moaning and groaning for an hour. Nothing happened. No care, except for my ex-wife, bless her heart. Then the doctor appeared looking at a clipboard...
Balance Problems - Don't Ignore Them!
On occasion, I hear from patients who complain of feeling dizzy as if they are going to fall when they turn their head suddenly, or lose their balance if they turn around in a circle. They may also admit to motion sickness, i.e., feeling a little dizzy and unstable riding a bike or traveling by airplane or boat. Balance problems such as these could be a sign of certain medical conditions. There are many types of balance difficulties and their causes can be simple, such as a drop in blood sugar or dehydration from not drinking enough water. Other equilibrium problems may be more complex and need neurological testing to determine their cause. Let me explain the various types of conditions that effect...
Medical Test Overuse
Today, when a person is sick or bothered by an injury and goes to their doctor, they almost always expect that the doctor will order some kind of specialized test. In many cases, this assumption is correct. Now more than ever, it seems that it is difficult to have a medical issue diagnosed without undergoing a series of tests, some of which are quite invasive or could have painful side effects. Before ordering such tests, physicians have the responsibility to inform their patients of the reasons a test is needed and the potential risks it may carry. Some tests may have very limited side effects. Others may cause serious discomfort during the test or soreness that lingers on after. In some cases...
"Silence is a source of great strength." Lao Tzu Time management tips can, amazingly, actually be used to enlarge your experience of time. You open your mind to journey from problem-solving time to sacred, or strong, time. Tapping into the power of strong time is simple. Three steps point the way. How to Create Strong Time Out of "Nothing" 1. Find time for silence daily. All arises and returns to silence. When quieting your mind to hear subtle sounds emerge, a profound shift begins within you. Your shoulders ease, your breath lengthens, and you experience the spaciousness of emptiness. Listening has long been valued as a path to sacred time, because you focus only upon receiving. After days of plowing through online articles and printed materials for fat loss, I realize there are numerous ways used to determine a healthy weight. Basically, being heavy ain't bad if you are say a non drug abusing body builder or wrestler. Nobody would consider them unhealthy in their muscle clad bodies since muscle is good tissue! It is the measurement of the amount of body fat that will tell us whether we are healthy or unhealthy. There are various ways to measure that. We have the popular body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist to hop ratio, skinfold, bioelectric impedence analysis (BIA), DEXA, near infrared (NIR) interactance, hydrostatic weighing and air displacement. Body Mass...
Most people know someone who has tackled the marathon distance but did you know there are those who go beyond that? If you're curious about how and why a person would take on the challenge of running 100 miles then read on. 1. Do You Sleep During The Run? No, personally I do not. Since these are races my goal is to finish the distance as quickly as I can; also there is a 30 hour time limit for most 100 milers leaving little time for naps. 2. Do You Walk? Yes, I would say that I walk about 30% of the total distance (30 miles). The "plan" is to walk the uphills, jog the flats and run the downs; of course if the race is relatively flat then you must include scheduled walk breaks. At Arkansas...
We're very excited about the exceptional chairs manufactured by Repose. Because we've only added them recently, we don't have a lot of experience with the company and can't give them the kind of ranking reserved for long-time proven manufacturers, but the Repose R600 clearly stands above all the other chairs in this category for features and affordability. Let me start with the features. The R600 is packed. First, let's talk about my favorite feature, the MP3 player with synchronized massage. Much like the more expensive Omega chairs, Repose has incorporated an MP3 player into this chair and programmed the massage to match the beat of the music. Music really enhances your relaxation, and matching up...

What to Do When Life Looks Bleak
I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. -- Agatha Christie A bleak, foreboding day comes eventually for each of us. Bleakness binds the mind, makes the chest feel heavy, forces the head down as though a great weight had dropped upon it overnight. Thoughts such as, "What's the point?" and "What am I going to do now?" come unbidden. In bleak times it may seem as though your well has run dry, that there is no recourse, no salvation. Yet there is always a path of action, even when you find yourself facing what seem to be limited options. The challenge when...

How to Meditate - Advice For Beginners
A while ago a friend introduced me to the concept of Zen philosophy. It was mentioned in passing, and I was left to explore the subject on my own. At first the teachings of Zen appeared to be an unsolvable riddle; however, there was something about the paradoxical concepts of Zen that seemed to hold an inherent truth, though I had no idea why. What I did know was that Zen meditation held the key to the riddle. But what was the key to Zen meditation? The instructions for meditating were deceptively simple, just focus on your breathing while seated in a comfortable posture. Is that it? If there was more to it, I certainly wasn't getting anything else out of those enigmatic Zen teachers. The truth is...
Three Common Types of Body Fat Testing
When talking about a person`s stats in bodybuilding, body fat percentage is a term that you most likely will hear. Body fat percentage is simply a measurement of the body`s muscle to fat ratio, marked in to a percentage. This article is going to explain the three most common ways to accurately measure your body fat: DEXA, fat calipers, and judgement based testing. You may also learn some new things about body fat that you previously didn`t know beforehand. The best and most accurate way of testing a person`s bodyfat is by Dual X-Ray Absortiometry, also known as DEXA. DEXA is performed by using a whole body scan and two different low dose X-Rays to read bone and soft tissue mass. DEXA is virtually...

Medical Radiographers are professionals who use complicated imaging apparatus to x-ray various parts of the human body and assist a thorough diagnosis. They execute medical imaging actions to diagnose medical problems. They are also responsible for preparing patients for radiology examinations, positioning them properly under the machines and ensuring accurate doses of radiation. They also have to maintain patient records and radiographic apparatus. They find employment in medical practitioner offices, clinics, hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers. Their earning ranges from $18.00 to $24.50 per hour. The medical radiography field over the next few years is expected to grow by leaps and bounds...
Rule Out Coronary Disease in Patients...
A man in his 40s, complaining of chest pain, goes to his primary care physician. He has no known heart disease; he is a few pounds overweight and sits behind a desk all day. How likely is he to die from a coronary event within the next 10 years? Coronary CT angiography (CCTA), a new, noninvasive test, offers a fast and reliable means of ruling out the presence of relevant coronary artery stenoses. "5.5% (9 million) of Americans aged 20-79 years are at intermediate risk of cardiac death or nonfatal myocardial infarction within the next 10 years, using the standard NCEP definition of intermediate risk-two or more risk factors plus a Framingham score of 10%-20%," according to Jon G. Keevil, M.D., of...
Where do radiology school graduates work? This is a good question to ask if you are thinking about going into this profession. The fact is that radiology school graduates can get jobs as radiologic technologists and technicians at a number of different medical settings, and employment for this profession is growing faster than average. There were about 214,700 radiologic technologist jobs in 2008, 61 percent of which were in hospitals. The other jobs were in physicians' offices, medical and diagnostic laboratories and outpatient care facilities. There are even more jobs today, and the job opportunities are expected to continue growing. If you have knowledge of several diagnostic imaging procedures...

If you have had an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) with contrast (dye injected into the patient so the doctor can clearly see internal organs, tissues and bones) you may be at risk of a fatal, incurable disease. Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) also known as nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy (NFD) occurs in kidney patients who have an MRI with contrast. An article at tells the story of Jeanie Deason who developed NSF/NFD and has filed a lawsuit against the makers of the contrast dye. Jeanie's legs and right arm are now "frozen in a bent position." Her condition has so deteriorated that she requires 24 hour assistance. She spends her days bedridden, limbs...
Although X-rays have been in existence since the early 1900s, digital radiography has only been around since 1970. However, since that time, digital radiography has been implemented into more and more large and small hospitals, imaging centers and medical facilities an in many areas of specialization. Popular imaging systems in use today include the CR and DR systems. CR, or computed radiography, uses an imaging cassette of phosphor to create digital images, and DR systems, or direct digital radiography, uses a collection plate for image capture. DR systems are currently in use as urgent care DR, veterinary DR, chiropractic DR and podiatry DR units. These two systems, along with related hardware and...

My Heel Is Killing Me... It Hurts So Much......
Heel pain is one of the most common painful conditions seen in an arthritis clinic. This article discusses the various types of problems that cause heel pain and what can be done to make the situation better. It's estimated that more than 1 million persons in the United States suffer from heel pain at any given time. When a patient complains of heel pain, it must be clarified by history whether the pain is in the bottom of the heel or the back of the heel because the diagnosis and treatment are very different. Pain in the bottom of the heel is often due to plantar fasciitis (PF). The plantar fascia is a tough band of tissue that begins at the medial (inside) part of the bottom of the heel and...

Appendicitis is a disease that involves inflammation and often infection of the vermiform appendix. Appendicitis is considered to be a surgical disease that requires removal of the affected appendix. The appendix doesn't have an important role inside the organism and its removal doesn't affect the normal activity of the body. The surgical procedure for removing the diseased appendix is uncomplicated and involves few risks. However, the problem is that appendicitis is usually diagnosed late. The disease generally evolves latently, generating non-specific symptoms. In many cases, appendicitis sufferers may actually be asymptomatic, thus allowing the disease to progress further and even lead to...

MRI and Ultrasound - Two Vital Branches of...
Radiology involves the study of images of internal organs of a living human body. A Radiologist is a physician who reads the results of various radiology exams. Before the arrival of diagnostic imaging, it was only a patient's death that allowed doctors to study the internal organs of the human body. Radiology was initially the branch of medical imaging that made use of x-rays on large flat sheets of photographic films for diagnosis. Modern day radiology is no longer confined to the practice of x-rays and now encompasses other methods of diagnostic imaging such as Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Ultrasound. Unlike other branches of radiology, MRI and Ultrasound have...

Will We Live As Long As Trees?
You should know that what we presently call "modern medicine" uses tools that have been around for over 150 years. For example, when it comes to tumors, we have new technologies such as MRI, CT, PET scans, etc., to locate and assess the shape of the growth. However, these techniques do not reveal very much about the underlying mechanisms that initiate and lead to progression of the tumor and metastasis. Thus, doctors at this stage use a number of strategies such as drugs, surgery and/or radiation. Hashem has made us all different, that is, not two people function and react in the same fashion. We are a world of unique characteristics and our individual molecular constitution is always slightly...
Computed Tomography Scan, also called CT scan is a noninvasive medical test that combines a series of X-ray views taken from different angles to produce multiple cross-sectional images of the bones and soft tissues inside your body. As compared to regular x-ray exams, Computed Tomography Scan of internal organs, bones, soft tissue and blood vessels reveal more detailed information. Doctors perform additional visualization of these cross-sectional images to make 3-D images. This method is predominantly well suited to quickly examine people who may have internal injuries from car accidents or other types of trauma. Using contrast material doctors can check for blockages or other problems in your blood...
Overview of Lung Cancer

Amazing Secrets of Hypnosis and the Study of...
Oftentimes we wonder, how does the secrets of hypnosis works? How can it cure both medical and psychological related diseases? Or is it safe to perform? But time has gone so fast, that new researches have been conducted in the quest to find the truth of what hypnosis can really do. These researches delved even deeper, as recently there is a research about what happens to a person's brain when it is hypnotized. With the advent of the technological advances we have nowadays, it is not surprising to know that this kind of studies has led into some fascinating observations. The recent study aims to identify the neurological changes happening in the brain when a person is under hypnosis and before any...
Brain Science And New Year's Resolutions
Motivational speaker Jim Rohn once said, "I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps it's because escape is easier than change." Success psychologists say that 95% - 97% of the people in the world do NOT have written goals and fail, while 3-5% have written goals and succeed. If these statistics are correct, then Mr Rohn's observation really IS quite fascinating isn't it? Unfortunately for most people, the odds for success are actually even lower, because out of the few people who do set goals, most don't take goal setting seriously, they don't do it scientifically and they only do it once a year. Goal setting is so important, that...
"When I saw my Oncologist not too long ago, I told him "I feel like a low-flying albatross is circling over my head." I was diagnosed with Stage IV advanced Malignant Melanoma that was predicted to take my life by September this year -- upon diagnosis back in February. The problem with cancer is that unlike other diseases, you're not likely to feel pain until after the cancer has grown to a point where, if malignant, might be too advanced and decrease your chance of survival. Worse yet, at least in my case, their seemed to be a mass exodus of friends and support as soon as I started looking sick. For almost a year, while trying to find a surgeon who would remove a tumor on my shoulder that had now...
Memory Loss - Dementia
Aging has its associated problems and not all of them are related to our mortality index. It can also cause disorders that may badly affect an apparently carefree lifestyle. For example, simply because the body organs don't function as smoothly as before, one may start suffering from irritating ailments like hearing or vision impairment and inability to remember names and locations. Until the time that this forgetfulness has mild consequences, it can only be a recurring irritant at worse. But if the symptoms aggravate and progresses to hinder the very rhythm of day-to-day life, it is then that one develops a cause for concern. SYMPTOMS: memory loss dementia, the condition of severe forgetfulness, is...
New Criteria For Alzheimer's Diagnosis Proposed
Millions of people are suffering from Alzheimer's disease in the US. And, doctors know that to slow the progress of the disease and control the debilitating symptoms, early diagnosis is mandatory. So, it should not come as a surprise that finally after a period of 25 years, a proposal has been put forward to update the criteria for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. The United States National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer's Association had formed 3 work groups that drafted out the update, which lays more emphasis on different stages of the disease. While the criteria mentioned in the draft proposal are being used, medicine and medical technology has come a long way since the criteria were...
According to recent study done in Canada, patients suffering from Parkinson's disease show enhanced brain chemical reaction just because they have an expectation of getting a helpful drug even though they have been given a placebo instead. The study was conducted on 35 people suffering from either mild or moderate Parkinson's disease. These patients were being treated with the help of a drug called levodopa. At the start of the study, the patients had to undergo PET scans of the brain. Then they were given the drug and were subjected to another scan. On the 2nd day of the study, the participants were informed separately that they had a 25, 50, 75 or 100 percent chance of getting the drug before they...
